7/8 Days Machame Route

Machame is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. For this route you don’t need any mountain climbing skills, but you must be fit. Porters will carry all your personal items, equipments and supplies and a cook prepares your delicious meal.

As a tent experience, Machame route (also known as the Whisky – route) is better cited to more adventurous hikes who are rewarded with fantastic scenic wonders and great panoramas. From late afternoon sunsets at the Shira to the misty of revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco wall. A photographer’s delightAn added benefit to this camping route is the most valuable commodity on the mountain acclimatization.

Day 1: JRO Airport – Moshi Town

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport; meet by our knowledgeable driver guide, after greetings and double check your bags will transfer you to Moshi town (35 minutes’ drive). Briefing will be provided by your Kilimanjaro professional and experienced guide. Your Kilimanjaro guide will also check your climbing equipments. Anything missing can be rented for you.

 Day 2: Moshi Town – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

After breakfast pick up from your hotel at Moshi town, do some brief shopping around town before we leave the town and go to Machame Gate (Alt 1800m). Meet you Kilimanjaro team; guide, assistance guide, cook and porter. After registration and hold an entrance permit, start hiking from Machame gate to Machame Camp (5- 6 hours). Today we walk through mystic jungle. On our way we have lunch, prepared by your cook. Machame Camp (Alt 3000)

 Day 3: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

After breakfast with our lunch box we walk for 5-6 hours up to Shira Camp. Today we leave the jungle and enter new, open world with strange plants. If it’s clear day we can see sunrise, optional walk to a beautiful view point in the afternoon. From this camp you have a fantastic view of the summit. Shira Camp (Alt. 3800m)

 Day 4: Shira Camp – Barranco Camp

After breakfast we have another beautiful day with different sceneries. We walk up to Lava Tower (Alt 4600m) where we have our lunch. We descend to our camp for dinner and overnight. Total 6-7 hours walking. This day will help you to get used to the high altitude.Barranco Camp (Alt 3900m)

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp

After breakfast, we start climbing Barranco wall walk. When we reach to the top of the wall the two view of the summit is astonishing. After lunch we walk to Barafu Camp for dinner and overnight. Total 6-7 hours walking. Barafu Camp (Alt 4600m)

 Day 6: Barafu Camp –Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

After dinner we take a short rest then around 01:00pm we wake up and start climbing to the summits (Alt 5,895m), about 7 hours. Early in the morning we reach at Uhuru Peak where will take photos. On our way back we enjoy the fantastic views of the glaciers. Optional walk to reach the glaciers. Short rest and thereafter descend to our camp (about 2-3 hours) where we can rest and have our lunch. After lunch we descend to Mweka Camp (about 3 – 4 hours). Mweka Camp (Alt 3000m)

 Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi Town

After breakfast we have final descend to Mweka Gate where you will get award of certificate of congratulation. It will take you 4 to 6 hours to walk to the Mweka gate and walking distance is 8.5km. This is another beautiful walk through the jungle. Transfer to your hotel in Moshi town. Overnight at Sal Salinero Hotel or Similar

 Day 8: Moshi Town – JRO Airport

After breakfast at you hotel today we shall have a short walk around Moshi town then transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport to connect with your flight back home or Zanzibar.
